A detailed depiction of the Masjid al-Haram, the Great Mosque in Mecca, with the Kaaba at the center surrounded by minarets and a decorative border.

THE KAABA PROJECT

70,000 carats. 300 years. One act of impossible devotion.

THE STORY

Here is a fact that should not exist:

A Hindu-Jain family has spent nine generations creating sacred art for Islam. Not as cultural tourists. Not as appropriators. As devotees.

The pinnacle of this 300-year practice is the Kaaba Sharif Jewel Tapestry: my father P.C. Lunia's masterwork. 70,000 carats of emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and diamonds woven—not sewn, woven—into silk. A tribute to Islam's holiest site, created by hands that pray to different gods.

It has never been publicly exhibited.

Until now.
